Hmm..., what can I post about the kpmg report that sounds interesting?

Well, let's have a look at these four developments in the online world:-

1/ Decline in the cost of media distribution. Well, yes there has been a decline in the cost of media distribution- but that doesn't mean that I am willing to give up reading my newspaper just yet! Actually, with the internet media outlets can increase their reach now. And I'm not just talking about the free stuff that they offer on the World Wide Web. Just the other day I read about "Amazons" new wireless reading device that allows people to download content into a hand held portable device that you can then use to "read" the news. People pay a small fee so that they can view newspapers such as "The New York Times". So media outlets can still use this medium to make money.

2/ Rise of user-generated content. This has been both good and bad. While there is a lot of good stuff that the average joe has added to the Internet, there is a lot of terrible stuff as well. Most of those home movies on YouTube are just terrible (in my opinion).

3/ Rise of sharing. I didn't really realize that this was a "new" development. I thought that information sharing has been around since the early days of the Internet. Thank goodness other people post FAQs for most of the computer games that are around I say!

4/ Change in way information is organized. I hope this continues as the number of hits that come up when you do a simple "google" search can be staggering.

A couple of other things- One of YouTube's best innovations has been that it has been able to deliver video to users on the internet that is actually viewable. I remember it wasn't that long ago when streaming video was a real pain- and that was even when you had ADSL!
Accessing video content on the internet is still however a problem for most Australian users as video takes up a lot of bandwidth and really eats into the download quota for the month.
